President's Message by Angie Kemp, CPCE

NACE has so much in store for you this year; I encourage you to take full advantage of the educational and networking opportunities.

Everyone’s favorite, "The Iron Florist", will be back in April along with a special opportunity for our Event Professional members to showcase their company. In May we are honored to have Lynne LaFond DeLuca, with Beverly Clarke Enterprises, Wedding Marketing Solutions and Hospitality Training, to keep us updated on the Wedding market.

NACE is celebrating its 50th Anniversary in June and we will have two amazing opportunities for you. Join all of the other Southern California NACE chapters to commemorate this milestone at Universal Studios Hollywood on June 3rd. Save the date and stay tuned for more details.

The Napa Valley Grill at Horton Plaza will also be hosting the San Diego chapter with a celebratory networking and wine reception on June 10th. This will be an exciting month! Don’t miss out.

It is through your dedication and participation that we are able to provide these experiences for everyone, so thank you and enjoy!

Our March 2008 Meeting by Chris Agrippe, CPCE

Going GREEN !

by: Chris Agrippe, CPCE:

Our March meeting was held in the Randle Ballroom of the Manchester Grand Hyatt.. Guests enjoy some much needed networking and relaxation after a long day at the office.

Incredible florals were designed with green in mind and provided by Hartworks Floral Design… dramatic lighting and sound were courtesy of PSAV.

Raphael's Party Rentals, Bliss Events, and Magical Party Rentals helped dress the room and we enjoyed strolling musicians by Sterling Strings.

The entire evening was a perfectly orchestrated ballet performed by the incredible Banquet and Catering teams from the Manchester Grand Hyatt.

Miso Marinated Filet of Beef and Ginger Sea Bass was our entree, followed by a dessert of Crème Brulee, Dark Chocolate Crunch, Sabayon & Berry Shooter.

The finishing touches were accompanied by freshly brewed specialty coffees provided by EuroBar Espresso. They are now offering fully Organic espresso, complete with cups made from corn, and recycled paper products for San Diegos first truely "green" cappucino bar service".

Special guest speaker Shari Millman, Vice President of PRA spoke at on "Going Green- Working Green". She shared important information that helps put green issues in perspective…
"Going Green is no longer a fringe movement it's a mandate. The EPA mandated Green Meetings in May of 2007. While there are currently no Green Enforcement Laws, we can expect the City, State and Federal Governments to begin enforcing in the near future."
By choosing to take the initiative toward eco-friendly practices you can improve your company's image and help the environment.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Some simple things you can do now are:

Adjust thermostats to neutral temperatures
Install light sensors

Choose biodegradable cleaning products

Bring your own shopping bags to the grocery store

Feature bamboo disposables and biodegradable "to go" containers

Rachel Burger is a friendly Midwestern gal, born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She grew up with a love for organizing and socializing, which eventually led her to her current profession as a wedding and event coordinator. She attended college at the University of Kansas and majored in interior design. After college, Rachel moved to San Diego and worked in commercial interior design for a few years. Then she changed industries to hospitality, working at L’Auberge Del Mar Resort. Last year, Rachel became the proud owner of Bliss Events and loves coordinating events and weddings full time!

In her free time, Rachel likes to read and belongs to a book club. She lives in Little Italy in an architectural award-winning home with her fiancé and two cats. She enjoys walking around downtown and taking advantage of the variety of restaurants, concerts and activities. Her New Year’s Resolution was to try yoga and that has quickly become her new hobby. Rachel enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family, and, of course, planning her own August wedding. She is one of our newest NACE members and is already volunteering to “help out” wherever she can!

Community Service by Nancy Changnon-Baron, CPCE

2008: Great Things are in the works!

March 2008 - "Bunnies for Babes" our annual drive for stuffed bunnies, we collected 30 bunnies this year which will find new homes with the children at the Polinsky Children's Center. Polinsky Children's Center opened in 1994, it is the emergency shelter for children in San Diego County. The facility accommodates abused, abandoned and neglected children in age-appropriate, home like cottages. The San Diego Chapter of NACE hopes the bunnies will provide the children something soft and cuddly to love.

February 2008 - The San Diego Chapter of NACE had the opportunity for 'global community services' by supporting Operation Thin Mint through Girl Scouts of America. The San Diego/Imperial County Council of Girl Scouts developed this program in 2002, since it's creation they have sent 1,087,157 boxes of cookies overseas. They are sent to Military Troops in Iraq, Afganistan, Kuwait, Korea, the Persian Gulf, the Western Pacific and the Indian Ocean. This year our Chapter sent 55 boxes of cookies to the Troops, as the Girl Scouts say "NACE - Thank You for Your Support". For more information you can visit - http://www.girlscoutssdi.org/site/productsales/documents/FAQOTM2007.pdf

The NACE charter provides for us the inspiration to give back to our community. Each year, we create several events and opportunities for our members to participate in fundraising for worthy causes, and our chapter.
