President's
Message
by Tracey
Amernick, CPCE
Its
been an incredible
year so far
for us and we
continue to
have incredible
success as one
of the top Chapters
in the country.
At our August
meeting we made
history with
the largest
attendance we
have ever had
at our regular
monthly meetings
- 200 people,
and we've had
record breaking
attendance the
entire year:
with over 100
guests at every
meeting! Our
membership experienced
a 37% growth
rate last year.
In July the
NACE National
Education Conference
took place in
Houston, Texas,
with over 20
attendees from
San Diego representing
our Chapter,
currently the
7th largest
out of 42 chapters
in the nation.
At the Conference,
we received
the highest
NACE honor and
were chosen
the 2006 Chapter
of the Year.
We received
this award because
of your support
and your efforts
over the year.
This is the
4th time we
have received
this prestigious
award.(entire

Our
September
2007 Meeting
by Chris
Agrippe CPCE
"San
Diego NACE
goes Supersonic
at the Aerospace
Museum"
|
|
|
by:
Chris Agrippe,
CPCE:
Our
September meeting
was held at
the San
Diego Air &
Space Museum
and featured
NACE National
Past President
Jerry
Edwards, CPCE.
Our Chef wanted
to go and I
figured that
the jet fighters
and Jerry's
presentation
on Wine and
Food would keep
him entertained,
but what really
impressed him
was the incredible
cuisine and
event production
by Denise
Jermyn
and the Award-Winning
Team at Continental
Catering.
When we first
got there I
lost track of
Chef, but about
a half-hour
later he surfaced
looking like
a true NACE
Professional
with a glass
of champagne
in his hand
and a kid-in-the-candy
store look in
his eyes.
"Did you
get something
to eat!?"
he said…
"Look at
all the great
food!”

San
Diego Aerospace
Museum Balboa
Park

|
| I
think
Denise
and her team must've
called in favors
and emptied some
warehouses, because
instead of just
setting up for
dinner, she actually
designed distinct
environments and
made use of the
entire space offered
by the Museum.
Her natural
creativity, artistic
timing, and passion
for perfection
created an evening
that was extraordinary. |

|
She
began with an
Interactive
Cocktail Hour
and Trade Show
that flowed
into a Sophisticated
Dinner
and Wine
Pairing Program,
followed by
a Vignette
of Chocolates
and Desserts
staged in the
Out-of-this-World
Blue Moon Lounge
|

|
| Each
segment was designed
and staged in
its own space
through the visionary
use of curtains,
sound, and lighting,
and by moving
our guests from
one venue to the
next through the
expansive Museum,
Denise
and her
Team made the
entire evening
take on the look
and feel of a
full-blown NACE
Educational Conference.
Add to this an
hour-long journey
through food and
wine pairings
presented by
Jerry Edwards
CPCE,
one of the country's
leading experts,
and… sorry
to say, if you
missed this one,
you missed a good
one. It would
take most of the
page to list everything,
but some of the
highlights were:
Champagne,
Open Bar, Adult
Smoothie Stations,
Lobster BLT’s,
Ceviche, and Grilled
Salmon Skewers.
Three
flights of wine
with dinner, each
served with an
accompanying course,
and the most decadent
" Dessert
Lounge”
we’ve ever
seen! Conservative
estimates put
the retail cost
at between $40,000
and $50,000 for
100 attendees…
you do the math.
Amazing. |
|
Some
of the contributors
to this innovative
and memorable
evening were:
Artistic
Productions, Attention-Getters,
Chef’s Expressions,
Jerry Edwards,
CPCE, Dream World
Backdrops, Entertainment
at Large, Event
Party Rentals,
Unique Concept
Events, Litecubes,
Peggi Walker Designs,
Plush Impressions,
and SoCal Ice. |

| Our
October
meeting will feature
our Annual
Awards and Silent
Auction Gala at
The Bahia Resort
Hotel
and this one promises
to be equally
spectacular. Please
make plans to
join us on October
9, 2007
for our Annual
Awards and Silent
Auction Gala as
we continue to
celebrate San
Diego's newest
designation, NACE
Chapter of the
Year! |

I
had the pleasure
to introduce
Michelle Rhea
of Java Productions,
and Dari representing
our member
Jennier Rohr
of San Diego
Magazine.
|
|
During
the day she
is a project
coordinator
for a mechanical
engineering
firm. But when
she is away
from her day
job, her real
personality
comes alive.
She’s
a competitive
road and mountain
bike racer.
She loves riding
on her Harley.
She has a brown
belt in karate
and still aspires
to getting her
black belt.
She has my dream
job…she’s
a singer in
a rock and roll
band. And, she
collects fragile,
fine china tea
cups.
Okay,
Harleys and
tea cups…it
sounds like
the talented
Michelle
Rhea of Java
Productions.
She didn’t
talk to the
group but instead
sang snippets
of some of her
favorite tunes.
What a great
way to showcase
what you do!
Our
second affiliate
represented
San
Diego Magazine
and
their new
Exquisite Weddings
Magazine.
Her name is
Dari
and she’s
from the great
state of Florida.
She’s
a terrific cook
and likes to
camp. She can
even catch,
clean and cook
fish. But sorry
single guys,
she’s
happily married.
But she did
captivate the
crowd when sharing
the details
of this beautiful
magazine. We
hope it’s
very successful..
In
case you missed
this amazing
September
meeting,
16 affiliates
shared their
expertise and
information
during the extended
cocktail hour
with a showcase.
We set up tables
and exhibits
so everyone
could walk around,
meet and talk
with newer members
or renew relationships
with old friends.
The showcasing
featured photographers,
bands, DJ’s,
candy, magazines,
officiants,
food and flowers...a
great array
of talented
vendors that
enjoy their
membership and
welcome the
chance to show
off what they
do. If you didn’t
participate
and you are
an affiliate,
I highly recommend
you put your
membership to
work for you
Get involved
and showcase!
Relationships
result in shared
business. That’s
the beauty of
NACE! All you
have to do is
make the effort,
and I’ll
take care of
the rest!
Showcasing
is just that
easy…interested?
Email
me: artistic-productions@cox.net
or call
me at 619-593-7367
to get you on
the schedule
for 2007. It’s
up to you
to
take advantage
of this opportunity…I
hope you do!
Be sure to check
out the photos
from our meeting,
compliments
of the talented
Max
Ader.
