President's
Message
by Tracey
Amernick, CPCE
Its
been an incredible
year so far
for us and we
continue to
have incredible
our success
as one of the
top Chapters
in the country.
At our August
meeting we are
making history
for San Diego
NACE with the
largest attendance
we have ever
had at our regular
monthly meeting
- 200 people,
and we have
had record –
breaking attendance
the entire year
– with
over 100 guests
at every meeting!
Our membership
experienced
a 37% growth
rate last year.
As you know
last month the
NACE National
Education Conference
took place in
Houston, Texas,
with over 20
attendees from
San Diego representing
our Chapter,
currently the
7th largest
out of 42 chapters
in the nation.
At the Conference,
we received
the highest
NACE honor and
were chosen
the 2006 Chapter
of the Year.
We received
this award because
of your support
and your efforts
over the year.
This is the
4th time we
have received
this prestigious
award.<more...>

Our
August 2007
Meeting
by Chris
Agrippe CPCE
"San
Diego Wins
the Big One:
NACE Chapter
of the Year"
hosted by
Ivy Hotel
|
|
|
by:
Chris Agrippe,
CPCE:
After
many years of
effort
San Diego
finally received
the coveted
NACE Chapter
of the Year
Award…and
when the time
came to party,
did we throw
down!
Our monthly
meetings are
scheduled almost
a year in advance,
and way back
in January when
we selected
August to be
at San
Diego’s
Hottest new
venue “Ivy
Hotel”,
little did we
know that we'd
be celebrating
as the #1
Best Chapter
in the USA! |
The
Ivy and the
Envy

|
| The
Ivy Team lead
by Becca Michel
produced an interactive
evening that was
an absolutely
perfect location
to celebrate our
national win.
Cocktails and
hors’d oeuvres
were lavishly
tray passed to
the bangin’
beat of House
and Trance inside
Envy Nightclub,
where
hipper-than-thou
bartenders mixed
some very chillaxin’
cocktails that
kicked off an
evening that was
off the hizzle…
ok… I'll
stop with the
adjectives…
but do you get
where I’m
going? |

|
The
show bar was
flanked by two
Eskimo
bunnies
who were dressed
to match the
"Hot
New Trends in
Ice" theme
presented by
Michael Shoer,
Founder
and CEO of Ice
Caters.
Michael
and Celebrity
Chef Damon Gordon
collaborated
to create a
menu and program
that were interactive
and educational;
as Damon's
menu was designed
to serve two
of the three
courses in ice
sculptured bowls
and plates.
Wow! |

|
| This
means that each
of our 200
guests
had their Appetizer
and Dessert presented
in a unique and
individual ice
sculpture…
these are one-time-only
ice pieces designed
to exacting specifications
to be food safe.
Michael said that
some of his biggest
clients are Vegas
Hotels who order
on the average
of 1500 per month.
|
|
| Dessert
was an Ice Chilled
Marinated Red
Fruit and Tropical
Jus garnished
with fresh herbs
and spices…
a delicious and
refreshing end
to an evening
that was fabulous
and exciting.
Linens were donated
by BBJ
Linens,
wines were by
Wilson
Creek Winery,
Green Fresh Florals
did the centerpieces,
and once again,
Arlan Arnsten
of Stone Brewery
was there with
his handcrafted
ales. |
|
Thank
you to everyone
for helping us
win NACE
Chapter of the
Year
as we celebrate
revolutionary
educational programs,
record-breaking
growth, focused
fundraising efforts,
and a cutting-edge
communications
team! Quite simply
put, we
couldn’t
have done it without
you!
See you in September! |
The
San Diego chapter
contingent recieves
the award on
your behalf
at the Educational
Conference awards
gala in Houston,
Texas.

I
had the pleasure
to introduce
Sean Slavin,
of Sean Slavin
Photography,
during this
month's affiliate
showcase.
|
| Sean
Slavin
and his family
moved to San
Diego less than
It’s a
great return
for Sean, who
spent part of
his childhood
growing up in
La Jolla. Some
of his fondest
memories include
learning how
to surf, riding
with a bicycle
team and flying
down storm drains
on a Flexi Flyer,
winding up launched
onto beaches
next to unsuspecting
san tanners.
When you meet
Sean,
don’t
let his quiet
demeanor fool
you. In addition
to his storm
drain days,
he has been
known to chase
sharks while
scuba diving,
jump out of
airplanes, ski
down Utah’s
toughest black
diamond runs,
mountain bike
through treacherous
countryside
and tackle the
most difficult
endeavor yet…raising
two daughters.
Sean has enjoyed
traveling around
the world, including
Honduras,
Fiji, Hawaii
and Samoa.
His surf photography
has been featured
in Surfer
Magazine, TransWorld,
8MiliMeter
and has been
exhibited in
galleries around
Southern California.
You
may have met
his wife, Rebecca,
at previous
NACE meetings.
She’s
a dance educator
and performer,
a member of
Screen
Actor’s
Guild
and was featured
in the CBS television
movie, Gypsy,
starring Bette
Midler.
Both she and
Sean admit they
have very different
personalities.
She is the one
who enjoys the
limelight and
he is happy
behind the lens.
Working as a
team, she has
taken over the
business side
of Slavin
Photography.
However, since
she had to stay
home and watch
the girls, we
welcomed Sean
to present himself
and his work.
He did so graciously
and with humor…delightful!
He will be participating
at the affiliates
showcase in
September so
if you didn’t
get a chance
to see his work
or talk with
him, that would
be a great opportunity
for you to meet
one of our newest
members.
Showcasing
is just that
easy…interested?
Email
me: artistic-productions@cox.net
or call
me at 619-593-7367
to get you on
the schedule
for 2007. It’s
up to you to
take advantage
of this opportunity…I
hope you do!
Be sure to check
out the photos
from our meeting,
compliments
of the talented
Dennis
Way ,
our affiliate
spotlight photographer!
