President's
Message
Fall 2006
by
Tracey Amernick,
CPCE
Greetings
Members,
It's
hard to believe
Summer is over,
seems the time
just continues
to fly by. It's
been a terrific
year so far for
the Chapter, we
have already had
some great programs.
We have planned
a productive series
of fall events
for you.
Plans for a CPCE
fall study group
are in the works.
Please contact
Angie Kemp, our
CPCE Chair, and
Board member Angie
Kemp at akemp@thedana.net
for more information
if you are interested
in joining this
group.
Congratulations
again to all our
current and future
CPCE members for
their dedication
and hard work!
At last count,
we are tied with
Florida for having
the most CPCE's
in the Nation.
With the "CPCE"
designation after
your name on a
business card,
you have a distinct
advantage over
most other caterers,
and the added
knowledge to make
a difference in
your business.

Our
September Meeting
by Chris Agrippe,
CPCE
You
asked and the Board
responded! Our September
meeting was the chapter’s
first-ever luncheon
and was well attended
by Affiliates and
Primaries alike. Our
host for the afternoon
was San Diego NACE
Treasurer Annamaria
Sanfilippo. She and
her creative staff
at the Sheraton San
Diego Mission Valley
produced a well-paced
yet relaxing afternoon
soirée with
timing and service
that was a perfect
execution of efficiency
and style.
We began outdoors
in the sun on the
patio with Non-Alcohol
Bloody Mary’s
and moved indoors
exactly at noon for
lunch. Each guest
table held a beautifully
arranged Antipasto
Display of Provolone,
Asiago, Boursin &
Aged Mozzarella along
with small bowls of
Caponata, Tapenade,
Calamatta & Manzanilla
Olives. Soft and crunchy
breadsticks and assorted
artesian breads were
served along with
aged balsamic vinegars
and extra virgin olive
oils for dipping.
Our presenter was
well-know author and
lecturer Rodger B.
Price who spoke on
his patented Primal
Marketing Program
entitled Blow Your
Profits Through the
Roof. His delivery
was direct and straightforward,
and was given at a
pace targeted specifically
to his NACE audience,
a group of high-energy
professionals on their
lunch hour.
Some of his techniques
were presented more
as tactics when he
demonstrated the classic
“Purchasing
Behavior Model”…
Awareness > Interest
> Desire > Action.
Rodger taught us how
to break through the
Tsunami Effect with
a customized Primal
Tactic designed by
answering five simple
questions. Is it One
Thing? Is it Simple?
Is it Clear? Is it
a Result? Is it Emotionally
Compelling? Combining
all of these answers
will give anyone with
a product the dynamic
wherewithal to take
on their toughest
competitor.
After Rodger’s
presentation we enjoyed
a Three –Course
Luncheon and each
plate was a masterpiece.
First was Filet of
Beef Carpaccio…
Baby Arugula, Whole
Grain Mustard Sauce
& Shaved Parmigiana.
Second was Lobster
Ravioli in a light
Seafood Cream Sauce
with Tri-Colored Peppers,
Red Onions and Fresh
Basil Flowers. Dessert
was a delightfully
playful Trio of Petit
Fours served on a
plate painted with
a delicately delicious
and refreshingly whimsical
Cream Fresch…
So many of us in the
industry find ourselves
surrounded by great
food and settings,
yet during our busy
day rarely do we ever
really take time out
for lunch. It was
a true pleasure to
actually take time
off to sit with friends
and eat a meal at
noon. The only problem
is that in my eighteen
years of attending
NACE meetings they
always ended at 8:30pm
and I headed for home.
This time after desert
and raffles I found
myself driving back
to work. Hmmm. We’ll
have to work on that
part next time.

Affiliate's
Corner
by Merrylin Brichmann
Since it was our first
lunch meeting, we
did not have an Affiliate
showcase. If
you are interested
in showcasing your
business to the NACE
members, please call
or email me. I am
working on the fall
schedule and would
love to add you to
the lineup. Keep in
mind, you don’t
have to make a verbal
presentation (not
everyone is comfortable
speaking in front
of a crowd!) You can
showcase on a table
too! The important
thing is, that this
is a great networking
opportunity! If you
don’t take advantage
of it, you are missing
out on reaching your
fellow NACE members.
Remember, this isn’t
about what the primary
members can do for
you, it's what can
you do for them and
your business!
Email
me: artistic-productions@cox.net.
I look forward to
hearing from my wonderful
affiliate members!

Community
Service

September
2006: Friends of
Scott
This
year, we've chosen
Friends
of Scott as
the foundation to
direct our community
service and fundraising
for. Friends of
Scott is a non-profit
organization that
was founded in memory
of Scott Delgadillo
who lost his life
to childhood cancer.
The Friends of Scott
Foundation (FSF)
is committed to
helping children
with cancer and
their families.
San Diego NACE will
help to contribute
money and support,
to ensure they receive
the emotional and
financial support
needed to cope with
this devastating
disease. FSF strives
to bring Childhood
Cancer Awareness
to the community.
The
San Diego Chapter
of the National
Association of Catering
Executives is preparing
for our “25th
Silver Anniversary
Gala & Awards
Program“.
The fundraiser will
be held on Tuesday,
October 10, 2006
in the stunning
International House,
Great Hall on the
Eleanor Roosevelt
Campus at UCSD.
It is going to be
a night to remember
as we come together
to celebrate the
25th Anniversary
of the San Diego
Chapter of NACE.
At
the August meeting,
San Diego NACE amassed
several hundered
toothbrushes and
tubes of toothpaste,
which is a part
of building a "Back
to School Backpack"
for a hundred kids.
At the October Gala
Fundraiser, we'll
finish the job,
putting together
school supplies
and much more for
a final presentation.
Here's
AnnaMaria Sanfilippo
taking a limo full
of kids to the Del
Mar Races.
